Statement: Advocacy Groups Come Out Against Proposed Florida Amendment 3
October 8, 2020
TAMPA, FL - Today, advocacy groups from Florida and across the nation announced their opposition to the proposed Amendment 3, which would have detrimental effects on minority voting power in the state. The announcement comes on the heels of the general election, where Florida voters will consider the Amendment for adoption. Opposition to Amendment 3 has been growing, as voters in the state weigh the effects it would have on their representation at the state and national levels. A list of groups announcing their opposition to Amendment 3 is copied below:
Florida Democratic Party
League of Women Voters
NAACP
America Votes
Our Revolution/Florida for Bernie
Florida League of Conservation Voters
AFL-CIO
Democratic Black Caucus
Florida Legislative Black Caucus
Sierra Club
ACLU
“Our Votes Matter is proud to have the support of these outstanding groups in our opposition to Amendment 3,” said Sean Shaw, founder of Our Votes Matter. “Every Floridian deserves to have faith in the Democratic process. Amendment 3 not only disenfranchises Floridian voters, but it will roll back the progress that allowed two African-American men to make history in the 2018 election, by capturing the Democratic nomination.”
